About the Event
This event is to teach students how using pets in therapy is beneficial; the school may be acquiring a therapy dog next year and feel like this would be a great introduction. Youth Council has focused this year on mental health education and want to show how dogs can help with anxiety. Members of SYC would like to start the event with a short presentation on therapy animals (Martha will do this).
1. Location Description: The event would be hybrid (indoor/outdoor). They hope to have those not visiting with the animals to be working inside the cafeteria on pet toys for a local shelter. Dogs can be right outside, on the playground. School is working to find a grassy/tree place for us. Possibly a couple of different classrooms or the gym if rain.
2. Other pet organizations attending: NO
3. Parking arrangements: No passes necessary. Volunteers can park in front parking lot and make their way into the building.
4. COVID Protocol : 2021/2022 Student and Family COVID protocols for the Northborough Southborough Public Schools
5. Pets & People Event notes:
- Remember your ID badge and your dog in the vest with Pets & People patch. Cats are exempt from wearing a vest.
- Always have a face mask with you at any event. While protocols will be changing, it is important that all participants at Events feel comfortable and safe. Mask guidelines for each event are listed on Event Details.
- Be sure pet is clean, coat and teeth brushed and nails clipped and always pick up after dog. Have bags on hand!
- Please remember our protocols state no pet interaction. If teams interact with any other pets always watch each dog's reactions and be proactive.
- Do not post pictures of any individuals you visit as a Pets & People volunteer team on your personal social media pages.
